Litecoin Wallet for Android
« on: January 04, 2014, 09:12:58 AM »
For 2014 the Litecoin Dev Team is splitting the fund raising into separate addresses so the public can choose to support different projects.

Sponsor listings for Litecoin Java Dev efforts during 2014 will be in this spreadsheet.  This fund is owned and managed by Erik Gregg (hank) the lead developer of Litecoin's Java software and is available for donations to other developers who help on that project.

Status: January 15th, 2014
Hank pushed version 3.29.3 to the Google Play Alpha channel.  He wants a few more days of testing then both the new and old apps with data migration guidance will be pushed to production.  All donations to the  Litecoin Android 2014 Fund are managed by Hank who is in charge of Litecoin's Java related efforts.  If other people join in Litecoin Java development he can choose to tip them from that fund.  Warren's role is primarily on the reference client but he will continue to help with the java-related issues as needed.

Our new Android dev hank introduces himself and posts a massive status update here.  It is a good read!

LiteGuardian posted a generous matching challenge where they will donate 50 LTC when the community has reached a total of 95.2454321 LTC to the Litecoin Android 2014 Fund.  This helps out a LOT to incentivize our new Android developer because there is a great deal more work necessary to fix up the Litecoin Wallet for Android.

Pre-release of the new Android app is now available in a test channel of Google Play.  You must join the group here then the testing link will be unlocked.

Status: January 3rd, 2014
A new Android developer is joining the Litecoin Dev Team.  I have been working with him and upstream bitcoinj to prepare a proper release of a Litecoin wallet for Android.  It is now mostly working but we want to make a few more fixes before going ahead with public testing.  I am very excited that this new developer is joining the team because he is not only helping us to create and maintain a port, but fixing bugs and making useful improvements beyond the Bitcoin Android wallet.

Please join in supporting this new developer in this targeted Litecoin Android fund.  He and others who contribute to Litecoin Java efforts will be proportionally rewarded with whatever is donated to this address.

Will donate as well.

Just wondering who this developer is? (background etc)

Good luck to him, he has an important task to fulfill.

Do his dev efforts end up in an equivalent bitcoin android wallet? If so, it may be worth making an appeal to bitcoiners too, via their team or directly.

The developer behind the Bitcoin android app has a different design philosophy that we disagree with.  The improvements we will have for the Litecoin app are entirely UI and usability, some undoing things removed from earlier versions of the Bitcoin app, some being more informative.

We can submit improvements upstream, but I think he would reject most of it.

Warren,

Just sent 12.5 Litecoins to the above address. This is perhaps one of the most important steps that you guys can take in order to promote Litecoin. We desperately need a secure Android Litecoin wallet. After this is out Litecoin adoption should explode!

I will donate more when you guys release an early version of this.

To the whole Litecoin Dev team, as a developer to developer, I wish you all the best in the new year!!!!
I really love your attitude and energy!!!!

Thanks for your support!  This helps to incentivize our new android developer.

We're a lot closer now.  The code mostly works but it can screw a user in some corner cases... still working on it.

Status Update: Fixed a few more bugs on Saturday.  We want to fix one more thing before public testing.  Meanwhile here is a screenshot of one of the new features: Confirmation dialog before send.

Warren,

This is looking good. But of course my main concern is security.
I think it would be nice to have an option to prompt for a password before sending (for the extra paranoid like myself)

Also how light weight is the client? Does it download the entire block chain? hope not.

This is awesome, been holding back for a decent Litecoin wallet. Friends keep asking why isn't there a good one on Android, yet there is blockchain for Bitcoin, the wait will be over soon! I plan to donate in the future, but I currently only have 10 LTC. Mining hard though!
